Packaging Instructions
Olive Oil Transport from Greece to Abroad
Our transport company also takes care of the packaging of your containers. We have specially constructed wooden crates that are designed to precisely fit 5, 10 and 17 liter olive oil containers. As an extra protection, we also place plastic caps under the lid of the container to protect against leaks.
For larger quantities or multiple containers, there is the option of shipping on a pallet.
Honey
Honey is usually packaged in half, one or two liter containers. Prefer metal or plastic jars. They must be wrapped individually with plastic wrap for their protection. For containers that contain a larger quantity and are in a metal container like olive oil (half or full can), wooden box packaging is mandatory provided by our company, otherwise we are unable to proceed with the shipment.

Olive oil
Olive oil in small quantities (up to 2 liters) can travel in a box or suitcase. It should be well wrapped in plastic wrap and there should be a gap in the container, so that if it is squeezed, there will be no leaks. It is preferable to place the container in the center of the package. If you have put oil in plastic bottles, you should have left a gap in the bottle so that if it is squeezed, it will not overflow. In the packaging, you will calculate that there should be absorbent material inside the box so that if a little olive oil is spilled, there will be no damage. In case of leakage and damage inside the box there is no compensation. From 5 liters and above, prefer the special packaging provided by our company.
Before receiving the containers, you will need to check the lid. If the container has a safety lid, send it as is. If it has the classic screw lid, you will need to check how full it is. There should be a gap of about 2-3 centimeters under the lid. If there is none, you will need to remove some olive oil. You will calculate that during the journey the container will not remain stable in one place, as it will need to be reloaded for the next forwarding station. There is also the possibility that it will be slightly pressed against the walls during loading. If the container is too full, then part of the contents will spill from the lid, even if there is a cap. In the event that the container is too full and there is a leak of olive oil, the responsibility for the leak, as well as any delay in transport due to the leak, lies solely with the sender.
Information listed on the box
On the box, we need the full details of the sender and recipient with contact numbers . A piece of paper with the details of the sender and recipient should also be included inside the box. In the case of a suitcase, if there is not already a special label with the details, an extra one should be added.
Externally
It is best for each package or suitcase to not exceed 20 kilos, to make their transportation easier and safer.
The package or suitcase must be wrapped on the outside with plastic wrap. You will want to make sure it is wrapped well everywhere to avoid damage from other packages or rain.
The plastic wrap is secured with packing tape (not paper tape), in two bands on the vertical side and one on the horizontal side, or in more if the box needs reinforcement.
If there is a possibility of using colored tape instead of plain brown or transparent, prefer it.
If you have a package containing fragile items, then the box will need to be wrapped with plastic wrap and marked with a FRAGILE label (you can find any label on the internet and print it out).
You will calculate that your packages will be stacked with other packages on a truck or on a plane. Because there is pressure due to loading, you will calculate that the packaging will have to withstand this pressure.
Internal
You will need to make sure that the package does not have any gaps inside, because the walls of the box will be pressed and it will tear at the corners. If it is too large, you can score it at the corners and fold the extra cardboard inwards.
Anything that is liquid (e.g. jams, olives in oil, honey, etc.) the best choice for packaging them is plastic jars, the second best is metal containers. Each one should be wrapped individually in a bag and with bubble wrap to prevent liquid from leaking if it is pressed. In case you need to put them in glass containers, then you need to wrap them with bubble wrap (bubble-wrapped plastic) in at least two layers and place them towards the center of the box.
On the walls of the box you will place what is less sensitive (e.g. packages of pasta or legumes, clothes).
Anything that is sensitive must be wrapped with at least two layers of plastic wrap or other material (e.g. Styrofoam) that can withstand pressure.
Liquids in quantities of more than 5 liters per package are packaged in separate packages from solids for greater safety. Prefer the hard packaging that our company can provide you.
Sharp objects (e.g. kitchen knives) due to their danger must be placed in hard plastic cases for greater protection and placed in the center of the box.
Porcelain, glass and ceramic objects will need to be wrapped one by one with plastic wrap. For their safe transport, we recommend a wooden box.
Pots and pans travel with the lid open on the side inside the box. They can also contain other things inside.
During the journey, your packages will be stacked with other packages on a truck or plane. Because there is pressure due to loading, you will calculate that the packaging must withstand this pressure.
Electronic devices
Televisions, computers and related electronic devices require extra packaging from their factory packaging. You should add extra Styrofoam or a lot of bubble wrap to the gap between the Styrofoam, the cardboard box and the device to wedge it into the gap. The outside of the box should be wrapped with extra bubble wrap or Styrofoam and marked FRAGILE. Our company recommends wooden box packaging for safer transportation.
Musical instruments
Musical instruments can only travel in a hard case specifically designed for each instrument. The outside of the case must be well wrapped with at least two layers of plastic wrap.
Bicycles
Bicycles travel in a special box or case, which you can purchase from specialized bicycle stores. The handlebars should be unfastened and in line with the body of the bicycle to reduce bulk and make it safer during transport.
If it is possible to disassemble the bicycle to pack it in a case to reduce the volume, you must do so before receiving the bicycle from our company. Our employees cannot provide bicycle disassembly and assembly services.
